We are able to assist artists in navigating the increasingly complex UK tax compliance landscape and any international issues they might face.  We work with you to ensure that you meet your UK tax return and accounts filing obligations.

 

We are able to act as your tax agent and will liaise with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on your behalf.  We assist in dealing with any tax enquiries the UK tax authorities may raise into your affairs, from a simple tax return check to more complex enquiries.  We are able to assist with any disclosures that may need to be made in relation to under declared UK tax from any previous years, and our good standing with HMRC allows us to negotiate favourable settlements in many cases.

 

If your artwork is sold overseas, we are able to work with advisers in the jurisdiction in which the sale was made if necessary, to check on any local tax implications of the sale and to check on local reporting requirements.  We are also able to work with local agents in relation to any enquiries or tax assessments which are raised overseas.  In all cases, if you have gallery representation, we would work closely with you and your gallery to ensure that these complex issues are dealt with appropriately. We are also happy to work with non-resident artists who may have a UK tax exposure through the sale of art in the UK or for other reasons such as property ownership.  We also represent UK resident non-domiciled artists and can advise on the personal tax implications that might arise in such circumstances.

 

We have many years of experience in advising on the structuring of artists’ businesses, and are also able to offer advice on Estate and Legacy Planning, Inheritance Tax and  Capital Gains Tax in relation to passing artworks or wealth generated from your work as an artist, to your chosen beneficiaries, charitable foundation or under schemes such as Acceptance in Lieu and the Cultural Giving Scheme.
